- Heart, soul, and mind connect us all.
Dear fellow members of the Columbia community:
I write to share that a new position will be created at Columbia to provide guidance and support to members of Columbia’s Muslim community and to enhance the understanding of the many different religious, spiritual, and ethical traditions actively embraced on our campus. The individual holding this position, to be called Coordinator of Muslim Life, will work closely with the Muslim Student Association and other student groups, the Office of the University Chaplain, Office of University Life, Undergraduate Student Life, and deans of students across the University. During the remaining weeks of the spring semester, we will be consulting with our student leaders and campus partners on the search to fill this position.
I am also pleased to inform you that because of this new role, the Office of the University Chaplain will now be able to open prayer space in Earl Hall and St. Paul’s Chapel over winter, spring, and summer breaks. There is a shared feeling across our University community that the times we live in require a vigorous reaffirmation of our principles. Today’s announcement, and the anonymous gift that made it possible, reflects the University’s commitment to that course.
